What does it mean for different whois status?

There are several whois status for domain names, if you well know about the exact meaning which will help you to understand the security of the domain name and what you can do in different status.

1. For newly registered domain name, you may see two status as following:

(1). AddPeriod

This status is only for new registration domain name. It does not affect your usage and will be automatically released after 5 days.

(2). ok

Normal status. In this status, you did not do anything more and there is no any security set for this domain.

2. In order to protect the domain name, some status will appear as below:

(1). ClientDeleteProhibited

This is set by the registrar. The domain name cannot be deleted in this status.

(2). ServerDeleteProhibited

This is set by the registry. The domain name cannot be deleted in this status.

(3).ClientUpdateProhibited

This is set by the registrar. In this status, domain name information including registrant/administrative contact/technical contact/billing contact/name servers etc. cannot be modified, but you can set or modify your hosting records.

(4).ServerUpdateProhibited

This is set by the registry. In this status, domain name information including registrant/administrative contact/technical contact/billing contact/name servers etc. cannot be modified, but you can set or modify your hosting records.

(5). ClientTransferProhibited

This is set by the registrar. In this status, your domain name is protected and cannot be transferred to another registrar.

(6).ServerTransferProhibited

This is set by the registry. In this status, your domain name is protected and cannot be transferred to another registrar. Some new registered domain or your domain transferred to the new registrar within 60 days, it also will show this status,no worry it will be automatically released after 60 days; Another situation, the domain is involved in court case, the status only be released after arbitration or litigation case closed.

3.Other status:

(1). ClientRenewProhibited/serverRenewProhibited

Th is set by the registrar or the registry, the domain name cannot be renewed. Usually the domain name is in the arbitration or court dispute period, in this case you need to contact the registrar to confirm the exact reason.

(2). PendingVerification

Domain authentication period (The domain name has not been verified, all the information should be submitted within 5 days for review, otherwise it will enter into ServerHold status.)

(3).ClientHold

This is a suspended status and set by the registrar. You need to contact the registrar to remove it.

(4).ServerHold

This is a suspended status and set by the registry. If real name is not audited for .cn domains, the status will also be serverhold and you need to complete your real name authentication.

(5). PendingTransfer

The domain name is in the process to transfer to another registrar.

(6). RedemptionPeriod

The domain name is in the redemption period and you can contact the registrar to restore it at a high price.

(7). PendingDelete

For international LTDs, the doamin name has been redeemed and to be deleted for re-registration; For .cn domain name, the status means the domain name is still in redemption period, you can restore it at a high price.
